Smiski: The Secret Library

Hidden amongst bookshelves and forgotten corners, Smiski has become a beloved symbol of curiosity, quiet adventure, and childlike imagination. In this atmospheric 2-session workshop, you’ll create a glowing library scene inspired by the beloved collectible while exploring the art of painting light, shadow, and mood.

Learn how artists use darkness, contrast, and soft transitions to create depth, atmosphere, and visual storytelling. As a special finishing touch, you’ll incorporate glow-in-the-dark paints that allow your Smiski to continue glowing when the lights go out—revealing a hidden life after dark.

The Workshop Flow

Over two sessions, you’ll build your painting layer by layer, learning how to create atmospheric backgrounds, dramatic contrasts, and luminous effects that draw the eye.

Discover how darkness can make light shine brighter as you explore techniques for painting a convincing glow within a shadowy environment. Finally, apply special glow-in-the-dark paints to selected areas, bringing an extra touch of magic to your finished artwork.

Drying Time

As this workshop uses oil paints, your artwork will require time to fully cure. You may choose to leave your painting safely at our studio for approximately one week after the final session before collection, or take it home with you on the day of the workshop.
